Colon rectal cancer is the second most commonly found cancers in America. It is also called collectoral cancer. There are a number of factors to blame for collectoral cancer. There are certain tests one can undergo to get diagnosed for collectoral cancer. But all of them are very expensive. Researches are being conducted to look for some cheaper blood tests. These tests should be done on the regular basis for the high risk people. If physician suspects a tumour in the body, he may ask to undergo a few more tests, to understand the location and the type of cancer. These screenings may include establishment of the fact that the cancer has not reached other body parts. If one has cancer in the rectum part of the intestine, he may notice blood in stool but if there is a tumor, then the blood will dry beforehand. Therefore, the tests mainly look out for the blood traces in the stool.

In another type of analysis, rectum is observed with the help of a viewing tube. This test may cause discomfort for some because of the tube insertion.

The best procedure to eliminate the cancer affected part is surgery. In these surgeries, tumour affected parts are cut out along with some non affected tissues. This stops the possibility of further spread of the cancer. After this, non affected parts of the intestine are joined together. To ensure that there is no tumrous growth after this surgery, sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapies can be given to the patients. The chemotherapy and radiotherapies can be given in combination even before the surgery to shrink the cancerous cells. During the time of operation, a bag is bandaged outside the body to collect the waste through an opening in the lower abdomen. Some tips to help keep problems such as rectum and colon cancer at bay are: * Eating a lot of fibre-rich food and fresh and dried fruit. One should also not peel fruits and vegetables to ensure high fibre content * Legumes can also be of great help as they contain photochemical and other helpful nutrients. So, one should eat full bowls of peas, beans, lentils and other legumes * Using carrots and broccoli regularly by including them in soups, curries, dips and salads may also lessen colon cancer risk * Cereals and whole grains have already established themselves as universal colon cancer fighters * Sometimes, low doses of aspirin can also reduce the risk of various types of cancers * Instead of taking three big meals, one should take the food in smaller and broken meals. This improves the digestion process.
